GEO-Instruments MTT Bogdan MAIN
Over the last five years Bogdan has worked on survey projects throughout the UK.

What is your role at GEO-Instruments?
I’m a Senior surveyor.

How long have you worked at GEO?
I joined GEO-Instruments in May 2021. Last month I just hit 5 years here!

Tell us a bit about your time here.
Early on I worked mostly on a long-term I&M contract for the tunnelling section of the London Power Tunnels project (LPT2). The work was spread over multiple sites across the TBM route through south London. My responsibilities included producing monitoring reports for the client related to the performance and advancement of each TBM. I also mentored and trained junior surveyors in the use of surveying equipment.

How did you get started in the industry?
I started working as a land surveyor in Romania. When I moved to the UK, I worked in building surveying before eventually making the transition to I&M.

Tell us about your day-to-day work?
As a Monitoring Surveyor, my day-to-day work is very varied, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role! Each day can mean visiting a different site, carrying out monitoring surveys, checking instrumentation, and ensuring that all measurements are accurate and within tolerance.
I also balance site work with office-based tasks, such as processing survey data, preparing reports, and communicating results to clients and project teams.
I enjoy the combination of practical, hands-on work and the analytical side in the office. No two days are exactly the same and that keeps the job interesting!

What do you like most about the job?
The job we get to do is often carried out in unique environments and requires complex, precise solutions. It’s great to be part of such interesting and varied work.
As well as that, one of the best things about the company is the people, we all work really well together!

What would you change?
It’s less what I’d change but rather what I’d like to build on top of what we already have. I think that we have a strong foundation and I’d like to continue adding new technologies into our workflow and expand our knowledge of newer sectors.

How do you like to spend your time when not at work?
My go-to activity at the moment is doing DIY around the house while we’re working on renovations.
It might sound a bit funny but it needs just the right amount of concentration and patience to get me to relax.
I’m also quite an active person and try to stay healthy, so I enjoy doing CrossFit and going to the gym.

What are you working towards in the future?
I feel lucky to work with this team. I get support in my career and in turn I’m able to support the company on interesting, complex projects. As part of this, I’m always looking for new opportunities to challenge myself and try new things in my work.
